Blog: The Deep Web Exercise

Used Some New Resources…

The likes of Google News, Scirus, Google Scholar, BNet, and Turbo 10 never crossed my mind. I'm so used to the likes of Google, Yahoo, and Ask Jeeves for my search needs. These search tools give me a whole new set of sources to choose from.

Google News…

I enjoy dealing with this, especially when it comes to my project, because it pulls news sources from EVERYWHERE!!! This is essential, because the auto industry is worldwide, as well as nation wide. While looking for information regarding my project, I found a news source from Asia…Who would've thought?

Scirus…

I don't know who came up with the name for this, but whatever. This would be helpful if I was looking up science specific information about the cars, such as combustion, or velocity….Basically things that I'm not interested in. Science is not my cup of tea and definitely is not within the scope of my project, lol.

Google Scholar…

This provides a list of books for my research. I haven't been able to find any related to my topic considering that it's a fairly recent problem.

BNet…

Now this one will probably be one of my, if not my, most important search tool. This is specifically about business related sites and articles. My topic is dealing with the decline in the auto industry, so there should be a lot of business related topics.

My Previous Knowledge About The Auto Industry…

It used to be a real prominent industry, especially in the Detroit area. In recent years though, due to economic issues, rising gas prices, outsourcing, and other aspects, the industry as a whole has been on the decline. In fact, one of the Big Three, Ford Motor Company, had been replaced by an international company.

What I've Discovered With Deep Web Searches…

Were mostly news articles and blogs:

BNet even has a section specifically for Auto Industry. (See told you that it would be a valuable resource, lol).

In Conclusion…

The More Options You Have The Better!!! Searching the usual sites for my industry can get boring. But by using these new resources, I can get a second, probably more reliable point of view. Overall, though, I feel as though I will be using BNet the most. Blogs are cool and all, but I'd rather have a reliable source to analyze and discuss. This has just made researching for my project a lot easier, lol.

Approvingly,
